Care
Leather Care
At Huppé, we only use full-grain leathers treated with a semi-aniline dyeing process that minimizes natural skin marks and enhances the uniformity of the finish. Semi-aniline full-grain leather is durable, and its character matures with age. To maintain its appearance and increase resistance to fading, it's important to moisturize this type of leather monthly with a damp cloth.
Upholstery fabric & faux leather care
Huppé offers a wide variety of fabrics and a collection of faux leather as an excellent alternative to real leather. To extend the longevity, preserve the color and maximize the cleanliness of your upholstery fabric:
- Vacuum your upholstered furniture regularly, including the deck under the cushions, using your vacuum cleaner’s upholstery attachment.
- Avoid exposing your furniture to direct sunlight.
- Flip and rotate back and seat cushions frequently.
- Clean all liquid spills immediately by blotting with a clean, absorbent cloth.
NOTE :
It is strongly recommended not to apply stain-repellent products after purchasing your furniture. Their effectiveness can damage the fabric fibers or alter its color. Additionally, using these products may void the fabric manufacturer's warranty. Before attempting any cleaning, it is best to refer to the fabric manufacturer's cleaning recommendations and seek professional cleaning services.
Wood Finishes
Among our many available custom furniture finishes, we offer several “wiped” options. Their beauty lies in the fact that they let the many variations of the wood pieces used in the manufacturing of our furniture show through. It is all of these variations that create the uniqueness of your furniture. Our finishes enhance the natural beauty of wood. The color of the wood grain can vary from pale to dark and its random patterns are solely natural. They provide depth and elegance to your furniture while showcasing the exceptional natural characteristics of the wood color.
Note that the color of certain wood species, such as American black walnut, white oak, birch and white ash, changes with age. Although Huppé uses specialized varnishes to delay this natural process, it is perfectly normal for your furniture to slowly change from a grayish to a yellowish color. This lovely honey hue will enhance the natural beauty of your furniture.
Note that the finish on your furniture will be fully cured 21 days after the date of manufacture. Within this time frame, you must use your furniture with care to avoid damaging the finish.
How to Ensure Your Huppé wood Furniture Retains its Beauty Long Term
- Regularly dust your furniture with a soft cloth.
- Wash your piece of furniture with a soft cloth dipped in a mild, fragrance-free soap solution, then wipe dry.
- For your comfort and to protect your furniture, maintain relative humidity between 30% and 40%.
- Avoid dragging your furniture when moving it.
- Avoid placing your furniture near radiators, heat vents and wood stoves.
- Immediately clean any spills off the surface of your furniture.
- Never use window cleaning products. They contain ammonia, which can damage the finish.
- Avoid commercial polishes or waxes. These products could cause yellowing of your furniture.
- Do not place any rubber surfaces on a wooden surface.
- Do not place your furniture in direct sunlight. It could become discolored.
- Avoid placing hot objects or heating devices on any wooden surface. Doing so could damage the finish.
- Never write on a piece of paper placed directly on top of a wooden surface. The surface could become embossed with marks.
